Travel, healing and moving forward!

Heres an update on a more personal level covering the last half a year or so! January 2023 I was supposed to join Patrick onboard the Holland America Ship that he works on whilst they were cruising South America and Antartica. Unfortunately though that plan didn't go ahead as I had an accident and broke my right hip. Thankfully the surgery to pin and plate it was successful and although I didn't get to travel to South America, I did heal well and was able to start teaching PIlates again a month later (albeit sitting down for the first few weeks!)

My Pilates practice definitely helped with the recovery and also some specific stength training exercises to rebuild my leg muscles. Its amazing how quickly muscles weaken when spending a week in a hospital bed and then 6 weeks on crutches!

My online Pilates business continued over these months with a slight shift to working more indivually with people in private one to one sessions. Group classes continue though and a new term starts 21/08/2023 and I am happy to announce that my Barre/Pilates classes will start again on Thursday 24th August at 9am (8am uk).

Although I didn't get to join Patrick onboard earier this year, I did just spend two months with him on the ship while she was sailing in the Mediterranean. We went to many wonderful places. Some highlights for me were Israel, Rhodes, Istanbul, Trieste, Dubrovnik and Corfu Town. And places I wouldn't rush back to especially in the height of summer are Mykonos and Thira, Santorini (both jam packed with people!). Nafplion, a lesser known Greek town on the mainland was beautiful though.

Whilst on the ship (apart from all that sightseeing) I went to the gym, continued teaching my private pilates clients and recorded a weekly Standing Pilates Class which was send out to all class participants. I got thoroughly spoilt by having a cabin steward come in and change the bedlinen and towels twice weekly and of course I didn't have to grocery shop or cook the whole time I was away! Whilst there are many food temptations onboard there are also some healthy options too - I love the salad bar on Lido deck. I walked many more steps than I had been averaging in recent months and I made it my mission to climb the stairs at least twice a day. (It was 9 flights from our cabin to Lido deck where I went to eat).

Apparently the average weight gain on a two week cruise is around 3 kgs. I was onboard for 2 months and I managed to lose 2 kgs which had crept on during my period of inactivity and recoverery so I am pleased with that! I am still in the honeymoon faze of being home and excited to go and buy my own food and cook - long may it continue!

So looking ahead I am so excited to restart a new term of my live online group classes and hoping by the 21st August it will be a little cooler in the Med!

I hope you enjoyed the read. I would love to see you in class or for a private one to one session sometime soon!

Best wishes
